Healing Help for Hurricane Harvey Victims

I originally had another post for you to read, but this felt more pressing and appropriate for what is happening right now in Texas.  Inspired by one of my mentors, Danielle LaPorte (www.daniellelaporte) I wanted to offer some ways you can help, just from the space of your home.

When disasters like this strike, or any world event, that we feel like we have no control over the impact of what is happening, it can often create fear, stress, and overwhelm.  It’s so easy to go into that space of feeling like the world is coming to an end and there’s nothing we can do about it.  But we have a choice.  We can flip that perspective and come from a place of strength, of empowerment, and contribution.  I wanted to offer a list of some the ways you can help.

For those of you who know prayer is powerful, please use the following prayer and feel free to omit or replace where needed so it feels authentic, from you.

This invocation is from the Mennonite World Conference in response to the 2011 Japan earthquake and tsunami. Whatever your belief system, the energy of this covers all of the bases for sending love and care to the people who need it most right now. You can replace the terms "God" and "church" with "Higher Power" and "global community" if that feels more real for you.

Morning and evening are powerful times to pray, when our hearts tend to be softer. You could also use this as a grace before meals, or at the start of a group meeting. Please copy & paste this to print it out, or carry it on your devices.

God of healing and mercy, we come before you with our hearts filled with grief as we see the devastation.
We pray that your presence would be felt by those who are grieving, who are injured, who have lost their homes and livelihoods.
We pray for wisdom and safety for those who are responding to the people in need and the many challenges left in the wake of the event.
We pray for our church, that it may be a witness to your compassion and care for all who suffer.
God, you are our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble. For this we give you thanks and ask that you hear our prayers for the people of Texas.

Here’s a meditation from my teacher, Davidji that is a good one for sending out healing energy to the world.

This is one I like for letting go of things we cannot control.

For those of you familiar with tapping, which is known as Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT work), use this one to guide you out of the stress conversation and into feeling more grounded.

If you’re unsure about how to do the tapping, use this PDF to help you understand it first and how to do it.

Of course, you can always donate.  Be wary of scam donations, which I just read this article on how to avoid.  The obvious one being, make sure the company is reputable.  Here are 3 that I trust and know the company's as doing what they say they will.  Meaning the money will go to directly funding relief efforts for Houston, Texas.

  • Together Rising is an organization that is particularly focused on helping woman and creating community in areas that need support.  They specifically set up a donation just for Texas.  If you send the text "TR4TEXAS" to 41444 they are committed to matching the donation up to $100,000.00.   I donated from Empowered Bliss yesterday.
  • If you would like to focus your giving to the state of Texas, you can donate directly via Red Cross here.
  • If you're able to include animal welfare in your generosity, please consider donating to The Humane Society of the United States here.  We love poochies so much in our house, so of course, we had to!

Choose a charity that resonates with you and give them your support and attention.  When we send the energy out of abundance and love, it really does compound your life.

Yours in service,
